50 Weirdest Baby Names Ever!

‘What’s in a name?’, says Shakespeare, ‘That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet’. Despite this truth, that Shakespeare elucidates, naming our children can be a difficult and overwhelming task and there are many facets to consider. Whether we choose contemporary or traditional names; names with universal approval or more unusual; a name is one of the first gifts a parent gives their child. When it comes to naming their children, celebrities are often known for bestowing their offspring with creative and sometimes even bizarre choices. So lets look at these weird and wonderful names, some may have you laughing, some even confused but perhaps you will find some inspiration.

 

1. ACE KNUTE
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s second son.
The name is pronounced ‘ka-nute’ and was given to honor Johnson’s Swedish paternal grandfather.
The name Ace means ‘one or expert’. It is of Latin origin deriving from old French via the Latin word ‘as’ meaning ‘unity’, or ‘a unit’. Maybe Jim Carrey’s character, Ace Ventura, inspired these parents.

 

2. ALEPH
Benjamin Millepied and Natalie Portman’s son.
The name Aleph is a boy’s name of Hebrew origin meaning ‘chief, number one’ and Portman gave the name believing it to be imbued ‘with mystical, symbolic meanings of humility, strength’.
In the Kabbalah, Aleph/Alef relates to the origin of the universe. The letter Aleph is also the subject of a midrash, a Jewish folktale, which praises its humility in not demanding to start the Bible.

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter.

The names Bowie and Flynn carry maternal sentiments for both the parents: Gwen’s mother’s maiden name was Flynn and Gavin’s was Bowie.
