How to Make a Newborn Baby Sleep Faster

How Do You Make A Newborn Sleep Faster?

Babies do not have systematic sleep cycles until about 6 months of age. While newborns sleep about 16 to 17 hours per day, they may only nap 1 or 2 hours at a time.

Every new parent thinks they are ready for the sleepless nights that a newborn brings…until they actually have to deal with continuous sleep deprivation and want to know,

“When will my baby start to sleep through the night?”

Getting your  baby to doze off at night is a quest amongst all parents. The thing is that newborns don’t have a sense of day and night, and they can sleep around the clock.

Owing to the fact that they have pocket sized stomachs, and can’t hold milk for long to keep them satisfied, they wake up frequently.

How to make your little one sleep faster:

You can’t make the new born sleep a long stretch in one go. It’s a slow process of building habits. This brings in one of the top myths about sleep!

That myth is that no infant, no child, no adult ever sleeps through the night. Yes, two to three times we all rouse a little bit.

So, you goal is to assist you baby to self soothe when he/she wakes up in the middle of night.

Here are a few milestones to help your infant sleep fast:

  • Keep your baby active during daytime:

Make sure you engage your baby in playful activities during day time by making it social and lively and night times, peace and quiet. This will help the baby understand the difference between day and night.

  • Calm their Baby Senses

Rocking your infant, swaddling, dimming the lights and lullabies may be the best choices. This provides sensory soothing which reduces the level of cortisol, the hormone that keeps them revved up.

  • Establish a Baby Bedtime Routine:

It should be simple and sustainable so that you can do it every night. Even the smallest change can trigger them. A perfect routine can establish positive and fast sleep associations.

  • Follow a Daily Feeding Schedule

As newborns can’t differentiate between day and night, they just sleep round the clock. Therefore, it’s highly important to fix their feeding schedules. It might become a sleep association as you feed your baby every time they sleep late or wake up in the middle. Slowly wean them off the night feeding.

  • Let Baby Self Soothe and Sleep Himself

It’s always okay to check on your baby but try and limit your time with them, to make it clear that it’s no time to eat or play.

  • Save Your Babies Favorite Activity for Last

It’s okay to let your older child sleep with a teddy bear. At times, you may find it very helpful to save the favorite bed activity for last which makes the baby want to go to bed early.
