This is a very popular nursery rhyme song today. Many different renditions of the poem have been created.
Famous artists have based their songs on this traditional poem whose first publication was in 1806. It uses lyrics that show words are a very powerful way of creating imagery and firing up the imagination.
For example, the comparison between the sparkling of the stars and that of the diamonds is very beautiful.
The song was written by Ann Taylor and Jane Taylor who were sisters.
